Q: What brought you to Rockfish?
A: After five years of working at CNN, I was looking for a new challenge. I loved working for CNN and all the Turner news properties, but the chance to come to Rockfish and work with some really talented people and expand my work to different brands is what really brought me here.
Q: What gets you most excited about SEO?
A: I believe that if you do your job right and guide the client in the right direction, then you can win for your vertical and I love that feeling. I love the feeling of taking a page or a site and raising its search visibility and traffic!
Q: How did you get into this field?
A: I got into this while I was running a little home business that sold prefabricated template websites to people in the entertainment industry. The buyers were asking for help showing up in this new thing called Google, so I looked into it and taught myself SEO. I later went back to school and got a degree in web development with an emphasis in search marketing.
Q: How did working in the news environment at CNN shape the way you think about SEO?
A: I learned how to think fast and make quick decisions.
I was lucky enough to be involved with some huge news stories, and I learned that being in that room when that story goes live is an incredible feeling that is like no other.
I learned that SEO is never done and never perfect – you have to keep working on it.
Q: What is the one thing you wish everyone understood about SEO?
A: Good, solid, organic SEO takes time and effort but if done right it will drive more traffic to your website in the long run than anything else you can do.
Q: How do you spend your time outside of the office?
A: Spending time with my lovely wife is top of the list. I am a huge nerd and run a weekly game night at a local gaming and comic shop. I am obsessed with Star Wars and Disney.
